Places To Visit In Nellore

Nellore is a beautiful city located on the banks of river Penna. It is famous for its scenic beaches, historic forts, temples, darghas, bird and wildlife sanctuaries. SHAR space centre is in Nellore district.Mypadu and koduru beaches are a short distance away from the Nellore city centre. There are a number of ancient and popular  temples and dargahs located in and around Nellore.

Satish Dhawan Space Centre or Sriharikota Range is a rocket launch centre operated by Indian Space Research Organisation. It is located in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. Sriharikota Range was renamed in 2002 after ISRO’s former chairman Satish Dhawan

Krishnapatnam Port popularly known as KPCL is a privately built and owned all weather, deep water port on the east coast of India, located in the Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh. It is located about 190 km north of the Chennai Port and 18 km east of the city of Nellore

Mypadu Beach is located on the west coast of Bay of Bengal, at a distance of 25km from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh. 

The beach is maintained by the state tourism board, APTDC. The beach provides fishing opportunities for the local fishermen, and access to cruises for the tourists. The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC), is taking certain measures to promote Mypadu Beach as a tourist destination by setting up recreational activities such as water sports and development of resorts.

Nellapattu Bird Sanctuary is one of the most frequented tourist spots in Nellore. 

It attracts migratory birds from all parts of the world and one can find over 1500 pelicans here during migratory season. 

The rare species of birds seen here include pelicans, spoonbills, night herons, egrets, ducks and many more. Watch towers helps visitors have a great view of the birds. The sanctuary houses a library, museum and auditorium.

Penchalakona is situated 80 kms away from Nellore. 

The temple is dedicated to Lord Narasimha. The temple is situated on the top of Vedagiri Hills. The temple receives more importance from religious point of view as it is believed that the temple was built on the place where Lord Venkateswara had placed his feet.


Jonnawada attracts pilgrims from all parts of India. It is located around15km from Nellore. 

Out of the two Kamakshi temples constructed here, one belongs to the 12th century and it is very popular. The shrines here are dedicated to Goddess Kamakshi and Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy. A festival for 10 days is celebrated every year in grandeur. The quality involved in the construction of the temple is evident in certain parts of the temple, which are built of single stones.

Barah Shaheed Dargah is a mausoleum located In Nellore District. The place was established in the honor of 12 martyrs. It is a common belief that those who visit here to pay their respects, have all their wishes fulfilled.
